Freedom to Learn Advocates (FTLA) was founded to promote universal access to books and educational resources for all communities regardless of race, economic status, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or political affiliation.
Our mission is to resist initiatives that aim to limit access to books and information, often in the form of book banning policies, which in recent years have been on a troubling rise across our country.
Freedom to Learn Advocates will work to achieve 4 main goals in our fight against unnecessary censorship and repression of literature in our public institutions.
Support organizations through financial donations and grants that enable them to fight back against a well-coordinated and well-funded effort to censor books and suppress important literature in our schools and communities.
Build a grassroots organization of like-minded supporters and engage them to fight back against censorship in their communities.
Support candidates and public officials who believe in access to literature and the ability of individuals and families to decide for themselves what they should read.
Develop a legislative agenda that supports the freedom to learn and advocates against laws that will enhance restrictions on books at the local, state, and federal level.
